In the Central Bank of Uruguay's specialized library, the memory and personality of Daniel Vaz persists. He was a hard-working entrepreneur, a strategic thinker, a talent recognizer, a tireless worker who joined the institution at age 18 as a messenger boy, and worked his way up to Economic Research Manager (semblance of Daniel E. Vaz Amy, in spanish).
He promoted studies on central bank topics, both monetary and related to financial regulations, studying postgraduate programs abroad, discussion forums and teamwork.
Under his leadership the Library grew remarkably to become a center of reference for professionals in Economics.
On August 2, 2017, the Central Bank of Uruguay's Board of Directors decided to name the Specialized Library after Daniel E. Vaz Amy (see Board Resolution).
The Library of the Central Bank of Uruguay was founded in 1967, starting with a collection of books that belonged to the Bank of the Republic (Banco de la República in Spanish). The library collection grew throughout the years and currently has approximately 7,700 volumes, 200 newspapers, a CD Rom database, international and national publications, along with CBU publications.
The library specializes in Economics and focuses on monetary issues, finances, statistics, econometrics, and economic theory. It also supports the CBU in its functions, and is open to researchers from other institutions, professionals, and economics and finance students.
